Introduction: Hello!

Hello, everyone!

My name is Cristina and I am a high school English teacher in Providence, RI. I am currently working toward an Individualized Masters in Education. I am  enrolled in this class called Social Issues in Education and I am very much looking forward to the topics that we will discuss and explore. This will be a place for not only just class assignments, but hopefully also additional reflections about my work and teaching practice.

A bit more about me --

  • I teach 9th graders this year, and they're pretty awesome! I enjoy the enthusiasm they bring to life and their willingness to try new things out with me.
  • I love using all kinds of technology in my classroom. Some usual suspects are: Google Classroom, Google Forms (for Do-Nows and Exit Tickets), Peardeck, Bitmoji, Edublogs and Kahoot!. I am always eager to try new tech things out and I welcome any suggestions or experiences you have had in your classroom.
  • I'm a part of an Evidence Based Argument cohort in association with the RI Urban Debate League in my district, where we meet and discuss ways to implement more EBA - like thinking in our classes (And then we, you know, try it).
  • I am not a traditionally-trained teacher. I studied Classics (Latin & Ancient Greek) and Religion in college.
  • I believe that as English teacher it is imperative that I read books on my own if I expect my students to also become lifelong readers. My goal is to read 20 books in 2018.
  • I enjoy all sorts of music and going to live gigs is my greatest hobby. Some particular favorites as of late: Angel Olsen, Big Thief, Jeff Ronsenstock, The World is a Beautiful Place and I am No Longer Afraid to Die, Lomelda, and Young Thug.
  • Playing video games is kind of a secret fun hobby for me. I am a huge fan of Blizzard games!
  • I love traveling and hope to take a trip across Europe in the near future.
Well, that's it for now! Stay tuned!
- Cristina
